Social Contribution Activities—JFE Shoji Donates 266 Cases of Emergency Canned Food
In November 2024, JFE Shoji donated 266 cases of emergency food containing 24 cans each to three certified NPOs: Second Harvest Japan, Foodbank Osaka, and Second Harvest Nagoya.
Despite Japan’s growing demand for food support, the country wastes about 6.12 million tons of food per year. To alleviate this serious social issue, JFE Shoji is helping out NPOs operating foodbanks that provide donated goods to people in need.
JFE Shoji stockpiles shelf-stable emergency foods for the benefit of our employees. By donating this emergency food when replacing it, we both provide food support and reduce food loss.
The NPOs noted above in turn provide this donated food to individuals and families in desperate need of food support, such as those living in poverty and others affected by disasters. It will also be given to welfare facilities, children’s cafeterias, and food pantries where people go to receive food support.
The representatives of the NPOs expressed their gratitude, with one saying “canned food is an important source of protein.”
The JFE Shoji Group will continue its social contribution activities such as foodbank support.
