Tokyo Baseball Club Competing in Trader’s League
JFE Shoji’s Tokyo Baseball Club is playing in the Trader’s League at the Sankei Sports Center in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture. The league is a round-robin competition between seven trading companies running between May 19 and November 24.
Our first game was on May 19 against Sumitomo Corporation. Our entire batting lineup wielded hot bats, with Kotaro Watanabe from the Sheet & Strip Overseas Section hitting particularly well—two triples and four singles—and contributing to our double-digit score. Our pitchers—Naoyuki Kawazu from Chemicals Section and Shuto Arayama from Automotive Steel Overseas Section No. l—only allowed two runs the whole game, and we won handily 12-2.
The second game, played on June 9, pitted us against the powerhouse Hanwa Co., Ltd. team. Naoki Maruhashi from the Accounting Section drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the second inning, Hiroki Akita from the Electrical Machinery Steel Section, on loan to JFE Steel, hit a triple to drive in two runs and give us a four-run lead. Our starting pitcher, Ryota Mitani from the Hiring and Development Section , and later Ryota Yamaura from Automotive Steel Overseas Section No. l, both performed admirably, allowing only one run during the first five innings. However, Hanwa scored a grand slam in the sixth inning, and we ultimately lost 8-4.
Captain Masayuki Obata, who’s on loan to JFE Holdings, had the following to say about the club’s future activities: “The Tokyo Baseball Club will keep working hard to beat the other trading companies. We hope you will continue to cheer for us!”
