Overseas Steel
A Global Strategy Expanding from Asia.
Synchronization with JFE Steel's Global Strategy
Steel business overseas is expanding with JFE Steel Corporation's steel products exports at the core, and the company participates in a variety of projects, with Asia as an area of particular significance. The export of steel products has been synchronized with JFE Steel's global strategy, and together with exploiting overseas networks to expand sales in new fields and markets, reliable supply of steel products through steel processing centers (coil centers) has allowed JFE Steel to respond to increasing degrees of variation and sophistication in customer needs.
With increasing demand for steel products particularly in China, intensive marketing resulting from detailed research has allowed cultivation of this demand, and JFE Steel is working towards expanded exports of high-quality steel products from Japan. Further, as part of the strengthening of the sales structure in China, JFE Shoji Trade Guangzhou Co., Ltd. was established in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province in July 2004, adding to the affiliate established in Shanghai. A structure capable of dealing with domestic trade using local currency has now been established, taking on the role of a retail base for steel products in the southern China market.

Overseas Steel Processing Centers Linked By A Network
As in Japan, steel processing centers are a mainstay of our overseas operations. Our overseas steel processing center business began in 1975 with the establishment of Kawarin Enterprise Pte. Ltd., in Singapore. Presently, including JFE SHOJI STEEL VIETNAM CO., LTD. in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, the company has 13 overseas operations: five in China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam and Mexico.
The main purpose of the steel processing centers is to supply Japanese electrical and automobile companies overseas with processed steel such as electrical steel sheet, flat rolled steel sheet, stainless steel and other essentials.
In keeping with JFE Steel Corporation's overseas business strategies, we intend to link steel processing centers in the above countries via a network, promote sharing of steel inventory information and further boost efficiency of business development as we work towards building a sales organization that satisfies the require-ments of an expanding customer base.

Participating In A Range Of Projects
We are actively involved in various projects in Asian countries, and entering into alliances with local firms to aggressively improve local economic conditions and future prospects.
[ Korea ]
In 1999, as part of its overseas strategy, JFE Steel Corporation invested in Dongkok Steel Mill Co., Ltd., of Korea, and then in 2001 invested in Hyundai HYSCO, which is part of the Hyundai Motor Company Group. In line with these efforts, by offering cooperation in areas such as distribution, JFE Shoji Trade has strengthened its relationship with both companies while at the same time contributing to their sales.
[ Malaysia ]
In Malaysia we invested in Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Bhd., the country's only tin plates manufacturer, which we provide with a stable supply of raw materials for manufacturing tin plates used for food cans. We joined forces with Kuroda Precision Industries Ltd., to establish Kuroda Precision Industries (M) Sdn. Bhd., a company that manufactures high-precision metal dies used for compact motors in VCRs, air conditioners and other equipment.
[ Thailand ]
Together with JFE Steel Corporation and others, we jointly invested in Thai Tin Plate Manufacturing Co., Ltd., promoting favorable relations in that country through the manufacture and sale of tin plates.
[ Vietnam ]
The company PERSTIMA (Vietnam) Co., Ltd. was established with 100% capital investment from the Malaysian tin plates manufacturer, Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (PERSTIMA) Bhd. The company has the production capacity to match local tin plates demand, and to meet rising demand.

Additional business ventures include an alliance with the trading company Itochu Corporation in March 2000. Together, we formed K & I Tubular Corporation with the aim of promoting export sales of special steel pipes.
