Machinery business centering on supply to JFE Steel
Our sale of machinery has grown mainly alongside the building and expansion of facilities of JFE Steel's Steelworks. The business area extends beyond Japan to include procurement of machinery in other countries. We capitalize on the company's expertise in trading and networking, and run a ship business that includes the sale of newly built vessels.
[ Steel-making Machinery ] We handle steel making equipment including blast furnaces, coke ovens, converters, electric furnaces slab casters, rolling mills and surface treatment equipment, as well as maintenance parts, steel frame construction and machine processing parts. We are integrated with steel making equipment manufacturers in Japan and other countries, and contribute to the cost-competitiveness and technological renewal of JFE Steelworks in Chiba, Keihin, Chita, Kurashiki and Fukuyama. We are also involved in the export of metal processing equipment and machine parts to overseas steel works and steel processing centers.
[ Steel-making Materials ] We conduct sales of materials for running steel works mainly of JFE Steel and the JFE Group. We also sell rolling mill rollers, bearings, electrical wiring, industrial chemicals and other essentials for JFE Steelworks in Chiba, Keihin, Chita, Kurashiki and Fukuyama. We are expanding domestic and foreign supply sources and customers, and cooperating with them to keep down the running costs of steel works.

Network-supported business developments

[ Ships ] In markets spanning Southeast Asia to Europe, we act as an intermediary in ship chartering and in the sale of both newly built and second-hand ships, with the focus on vessels for transporting automobiles and chemical tankers. In addition to the sale of mainly Japanese vessels for scrap to the Chinese market, our operations also extend to the marine transportation business, in which we own a fleet of charter ships.
[ Electric Power Business ] In a joint venture with Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in 1999, we took our first step to becoming an independent power producer (IPP) for the Electric Power Agency of Sri-Lanka. This is our first venture into the power generation business. The power plant has been able to meet about 8% of Sri Lanka's electricity demand.
